On March 17, 2026, the first domestically-built 88K VLGC 300m³ deck tank project, jointly developed by Changjiang SANTACC Energy Co., Ltd. (referred to as " SANTACC") and Qidong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry, was successfully delivered and shipped from the Qidong production base. This milestone marks another important breakthrough in the collaborative innovation achievements of China's energy equipment and shipbuilding & offshore engineering sectors.
The 88K VLGC 300m³ deck tank developed for this project is a core supporting equipment customized for Very Large Gas Carriers (VLGC). It integrates the core technologies of SANTACC in the R&D and manufacturing of energy equipment such as LNG/LPG Tank, as well as the advanced craftsmanship of Qidong COSCO Shipping Heavy Industry in shipbuilding and offshore engineering equipment construction. Since the project's initiation, the two parties have focused on product performance, safety standards and compatibility requirements. After multiple stages including scheme design, process optimization and trial production, they have overcome several technical challenges such as large-volume tank forming, high-strength material welding and precise equipment adaptation, ultimately achieving high-quality product delivery.
As the first project of its kind in China with this specification, the successful delivery and shipment not only fills the gap in independent manufacturing in this field in China, further consolidating SANTACC's industry position in the R&D and manufacturing of energy equipment, but also provides a new example for the deep integration of China's shipbuilding & offshore engineering equipment and energy industries.
